Area is quite big. Should be ok. They can always build more apartment blocks there. Btw, any discount if book early?

It is like the cemetery in the Toronto area, where those who bought a plot or plots years ago, are benefitting from the increase in the value of real properties.
I have been considering buying my final resting place, after all, we will die, sooner or later.

standard niche fee for all gov columbaria is sgd500. for family, it's sgd900. gov allocates columbaria "pigeon holes" for urn storage in sequential order, a.k.a. first cum first serve. to change location, extra fee of sgd250 is incurred. no discounts. but fees may go up in future depending on whim and fancy of gov, or if columbaria workers were to strike. can also share urn with loved ones to save space and cost. after all, ashes to ashes.

the lucky country will turn unlucky soon...luck, gold, oil and uranium are all running out.....

There is enough deposits to last at least 100 years.

i hope the aborigines will make more claims to their rights to the land....

They have already lay claims to their respective countries. Now, they have to fight with their own neighouring countries for more land. (excuse my arbo speak)

australia will turn into a massive sahara soon....

Chinese companies are turning those lands for agriculture use.

Personally, I think -

Australia is too crowded now with less jobs now. You will be jostling with out-of-jobs Americans, Europeans and other Asians hopefuls for your piece of pie. It reminds me of the gold rush without the profitable gold leases.

Been staying in Matlasia for nearly over a year now since I retired and my monthly usage is only SGD600. My passive income is around SGD2400+- the rest I use for small investments in the malaysian/ singapore stock exchange or for short trips to thailand and hong kong. Medical is cheaper than in SG but the transport here is really crap ( no personal car cannot survive )

Malaysia truly has it all. Decent infrastructure, old world Asian charm which sinkie has lost, great food, climate and I have never experienced racism, crime, unfriendliness there

The corruption may be there but the recent stories coming from Singapore show, it is everywhere.
I would go so far as to say that every major purchasing decision/contract at a corporate level has some degree of corruption about it

In my opinion places like India and Malaysia are home of the honest bribe or inducement. Countries like oz, sink, US it is all hush hush but happens even more because the stakes are higher

I've done this calculation with many Singaporeans before and it's very reasonable and even on the high side for both scenarios. Actually our good friend Chonburifc should be able to tell us these can be easily improved.

HIGH BUDGET (VERY VERY COMFORTABLE)

Apartment - 8,000 baht ($330)
Utilities - 2,000 baht ($80)
Makan (240 baht/day) - 7,200 baht ($290)
Internet/Mobile Phone - 2,400 baht ($100)
Transport (motor taxi/MRT) - 3,000 baht ($120)

Total - 22,600 baht ($920)

REASONABLE BUDGET (VERY COMFORTABLE)

Apartment - 6,000 baht ($250)
Utilities - 2,000 baht ($65)
Makan (200 baht/day) - 6,000 baht ($250)
Internet/Mobile Phone - 2,400 baht ($100)
Transport (motor taxi/MRT) - 2,400 baht ($100)

Total - 18,800 baht ($765)

I'm gearing up for Malaysia for retirement already. Looking for a piece of land now to build a house and maybe do some organic farming.

Now a days in Thailand when people want to buy landed property very often they choose cluster housing (we call it village). Inside a cluster housing project you find all the condominium facilities and also 24hrs security. This is preferred because of security reason. If a normal land anywhere without security, burglary can be common. Don't know the security problem in Malaysia but advisable to go with cluster housing for safety.

Of course cluster housing can be boring as all houses look the same and not much of a choice however there may be some project that is cluster housing yet allow buyer to choose the land size and build their own design. This is what I had chosen and its like the best of both worlds.

Your figures look reasonable based on one Canadian whom I met on an April 2012 Cathay Pacific flight, when he explained to me that he usually stays in Thailand for 2 to 3 months a year, at monthly rent which is a small portion of comparable Canadian leased premises, and that food and meals are very reasonable compared to Major Canadian cities.

Are foreigners allowed to buy land in Malaysia?

Are you planning to become a permanent resident in Malaysia? Otherwise, how are you able to reside there on a long-term basis?

There is this "Malaysia My Second Home" programme. Sound okay...just worried about security.

I heard of this but I hope to have land for farming...cluster house can only do gardening.

Buikia, you can be like me, stay in a proper cluster home and have farm elsewhere, in farm area. Security is paramount concern bro especially if have family members with you. I mean most land that allow you to do some farming even small area cannot be so downtown or even near a town, so security again I stress please.

My uncle a Malaysian has some fruit farms in Batu Pahat, he employs people to take care and farms but manage it himself, there are time when in the night Malays come in trucks armed with parangs to take his fruits like a fucking mob and there is nothing he could do about it. Police also don't care. Please consider this.

Where to retire?

Anywhere but Singapore.
Where of $100, LKY and his cockroaches in white will get $50 before you get anything in goods and services back from $100.
In other countries, with that $100, you get back $95 in goods and services.

Why else is cost of living so much cheaper?
For a gaberment shouting and screaming how they are the most efficient in the world, why is living here so expensive?

You cannot vote them out.
Vote with your feet and take your money and get out of this Gulag.
