I am not stopping my daughter who now is making plans
to migrate to Australia.

When she first graduated with a first class honors about 4 years back, she
was head hunted and offered a position with the Australian Government, but
turned it down because she wasn’t prepared to give up her Singaporean
citizenship. She also missed Singapore and love being with Family.

I sent her back for 2 weeks holiday recently to accompany my son who is now
studying in her former university. When we received her at the airport on her
return journey we noticed a sense of unhappiness and asked her why.

She explained that she missed Australia and that there
is no life balance in Singapore. She said that she had no problems meeting all
of her former classmates almost everyday in Australia. They were all able to
meet up despite short notices because work stops at 5pm whilst she and her
Singaporean university mates who came back can hardly meet each other in
Singapore because everyone is working too hard and too late and are just too
tired.

To add salt to injury, the students who decided to stay on and work in
Australia were all earning two times more than their counter-parts in Singapore.

They were all happy and enjoying their lives, unlike those who came back to
Singapore to work.

The cost of living and pace of life is
becoming just too ridiculous in Singapore.
Spending millions getting
more to migrate to Singapore and losing your own makes sense only to
Pappies.

Are you NUTs?:

@Ardent Reader

What about tax? You must be nuts to think life is so
simple.

Yes, the tax in Australia is higher, but here is what you get for the taxes
you pay:

1. You go to a public hospital and you are entitled to FREE medical treatment
no matter what your condition, be it a broken arm or leg, an emergency angiogram
or heart bypass, scans, medications and doctors fees are all covered. Your out
of pocket expense is $0.00.

2. If you see your GP outside, you are entitled to a medicare rebate of about
$36.00. So if your doctor charges you $60, you get back $36.

3. You are entitled to PBS medications. This means if your medications are
part of the PBS list, no matter how much the medication is worth, you pay about
$35.50 and the balance is paid for by the government.

4. Public education is subsidised.

5. If you lose your job, you are entitled to a social security payment to
ensure you can survive till you find another job.

6. When you retire, you are entitled to a pension.

7. The Government is answerable to you and not the other way around.

And the list goes on.

So better to pay a higher tax upfront and see what you get back than pay all
the PAP backdoor tax just to pay them their salaries while the people live to
work till they drop dead.

Oz is not as perfect as this mom says it is. But at least their children and grandchildren wont have to pay 130k for meningitis treatment.

She doesn't have to give up her Singapore citizenship, all she needs to do is get Australian PR unless the job specifies that she has to be a Aussie citizen & that she must drop/denounce her Singapore citizenship, which will never happen as no country in the world would do that without risking a full on diplomatic row!

As for missing her family, that is a hard decision for her but most parents these days are quite forgiving & would allow their kids the freedom to leave as they know keeping her back in Singapore will not make her or them happy.

Its a government job, they required that you are a citizen before you qualify for it. Unlike in Singapore, in order to get a job in a government department you need to be a citizen.

If they require her to be a Australian citizen, so be it, she gets full Australian citizenship & passport but she can still hold on to her Singaporean citizenship & passport as Australia allows dual citizenship! A foreign country like Australia cannot force a person to drop their "other" citizenship or passport, doing so will risk a diplomatic row.

However, Singapore does not allow dual citizenship but you don't have to declare you are a citizen of another country, the onus is for the ICA to prove that you are. The best situation for a Singaporean who still has ties in Singapore & is not willling to give up his/her Singaporean citizenship is to continue to hold on to your Singapore passport & citizenship & gain PR in another country.

Anyway if what they report in the papers is true, Amy Cheong is a Australian citizen & holds a Singapore PR & she got a job at NTUC, how did that happen?

Exactly, most government jobs, and that includes state level, which means rail, public hospital requires you hold Aussie citizenship for "higher" level, management positions. Only the contractors are only required residency. How did Amy get to her position in NTUC holding a foreign citizenship? You will think a "national" job like that requires you to be a citizen.

but you must know that australia do not accept ex-convicts. So if you want to choose australia to emigrate to, you must make sure that you never go to jail before, unlike someone in this forum.
