<p class="first"><b>A cleaner at Singapore Zoo has died after being mauled by three tigers.</b>
</p>
<p>Nordin Bin Montong was attacked by the white Bengal tigers after crossing a moat surrounding their enclosure. He was reportedly acting erratically.
</p>
<p>Zookeepers raised the alarm after they heard the screams of horrified visitors.
</p>
<p>They managed to distract the tigers and pull Mr Nordin away but he died of his injuries on the way to hospital. Police are investigating the incident. <!-- E SF -->

<p>The Straits Times newspaper in Singapore says witnesses saw the cleaner climb into the enclosure and wade through the 10m (33-foot) wide moat.
</p>
<p>He then approached the tigers with a <font face="arial,helvetica,sans-serif" size="5">broomstick and a bucket.</font>
</p>
<p>According to the paper, the largest tiger lunged at Mr Nordin who fell immediately and recoiled into a foetal position.

Not too sure if some of you who were around in the early 70's remember this true case of an Indian man who was killed in a zoo in India and was reported in the ST at that time. I am recalling from memory of the report, so excuse if the details are a bit sketchy.

This Indian guy who was practising some religion (which religion, I could not remember) was at the zoo where the tigers (or lions?) were kept in a fenced enclosure. The guy told all those viewing that he is protected by a higher power because of his religion and to demonstrate, he went up to the fence where a tiger was immediately behind. He pulled on the tiger's whiskers but the tiger ignored him. He turned around to the audience to seek acknowledgrment that what he declared about being protected is true.

Sensing that the audience was still sceptic, he decided to climb into the enclosure with the tiger and still the tiger ignored him. Emboldened by this, and also to show off to the audience, he poked the tiger's eyes with his fingers and this enraged the tiger. He was then history.

Moral of story: Don't push your luck.
