Yummy, garlicky scallops with vermicelli at Crystal Jade Kitchen.
Singapore, July 31, 2009 - We are always happy to return to Crystal Jade Kitchen outlets again and again for the soothing bowl of fish porridge and succulent roast duck.

They're like comfort food.

And often, we'd miss the promotional dishes or chef's recommendations.

Usually, they are unique creations not in the usual menu.
The highly aromatic stewed Ox's Trotter braised with white radish and shallot is one example.

It hardly trots into Crystal Jade's menu so this is a very special Chinese banquet dish priced at only $16.80.

If you like braised brisket and tender beef tendon, you will enjoy this dish.

The soy-sauce, spice and herb seasonings for the brown sauce in the braised brisket are about the same for that for the Ox trotter. But efforts to clean and cook it till it's melt-in-the-mouth are tremendous.

Natural gelatin from the skin and tendon thickens the mouthwatering, savoury sauce. Although there's hardly any meat or fat, those of us who enjoy such slippery-textured food like sea cucumbers and tendons will relish it like a glutton. It's great for skin and bones apparently.
Just order a bowl of rice or porridge to go with this dish. Or a plate of plain noodles.
Another simple but impressive dish at Crystal Jade Kitchen outlets is the steamed fresh scallops with the addictive vermicelli and minced garlic. It tasted robustly WOW with copious amounts of minced garlic and minced meat.
A bed of vermicelli soaked up the delicious juices from scallops and garlic. Everything was polished off neatly from our platter. We thought it would help us fight the swine-flu.

After tasting this dish, you wonder why the Crystal Jade chain has not set up a seafood restaurant yet. In fact, a colleague goes to Crystal Jade whenever she has a craving for crabs.

Anyway, each piece of the scallop costs $2.30. A serving for each person comes with two pieces.
Crystal Jade restaurants are participating in the Great Singapore Feast which offers discount vouchers for dining.

I recently had a bad experience with Crystal Jade Palance at OP Beijing, one of the most expensive and upmarket restaurant there. My colleague found a small white cockroach sticking on their siew mai when we were alomost done. The manager immediately took it away before I can take a picture and initialy just wanted to replace the dish. I was shocked and told her off and she immediately waive the bill. She looked really scared that we will make a fuss infront of the other customers and escorted us out, apologising all the way.

CCB. Should have made a fuss and ask for compensation but I was feeling sick and wanted to throw out after seeing that little creature.

I've told all my colleagues never to visit them again
