Teen sex survey

'Parents, don't let a piece of rubber determine your child's future.' MS YVONNE LAU: 'I refer to last Friday's report, 'Youth ignorant about birth control: Survey'. The survey's results confirm that the problem of pre-marital sex among teenagers is not the lack of knowledge or ignorance about sex and contraception. Teenagers today have access to an abundance of knowledge, from school, peers and the media, especially the Internet. But what they watch, hear and read about is often incomplete and misleading. Our teenagers need guidance on what to do with all the information and parents are the ideal people to provide such wisdom. I agree that abstinence is best as it's the only completely effective antidote against premarital sex. So what's stopping adults from telling our youth what is most beneficial for them? Parents, and not schools, must bear the main responsibility for educating their children about sexuality. Have faith that our youth, given the proper direction, can choose to save sex for marriage. Don't let a condom, a piece of rubber, determine your child's future.'
