Our grandparents, some parents and friends are not citizens by birth. They came to Singapore from far and wide to make a contribution, whether spiritual, economic or political. They toiled their whole lives to make Singapore what it is today.
The first batch of residents became citizens not by choice but out of the need to elect a government to run the country. People of various talents and skills came from all parts of South-east Asia, as well as China and India, and helped the sons of the land make Singapore a success story.
Looking at Singapore today, the continuous flow of foreign talent continues to make Singapore a first-class city and beyond. This new generation of people and their children should be given the same treatment as the first generation.
Without foreign talent, including foreign labour, there would not be enough Singaporeans to take over various tasks in nation building. Singaporeans and their children would never take jobs which are currently done by foreign workers.
Moreover, there would not be enough Singaporeans, judging by the annual birth rate, to replace the existing labour force in the next 20 years.
