<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->I REFER to Mr John Gee's letter last Monday, 'Where's the harm?'.
I have an example of harm: the safety of people all around.
Already heavy traffic will be even heavier, the crowded food market will be even more crowded, buses will be packed, and how will people treat foreign workers. The Government should not have a dormitory in Serangoon Gardens, it's just too inconvenient.
I'll explain. How will people treat the workers? Like anyone else, or like dirt? Will they 'feel at home'? Or will people keep their distance?
Eight years ago, upgrades were being done near my place, which is near Serangoon Gardens. Being young, stupid and bored, I would pass the time by doing things like running into the construction site where the upgrades were.
One day, or should I say night, I was in the construction site, and, a little tired, I sat down. A short while later, I saw a man walking towards me; wanting attention, I stayed where I was. The fact that I was a young girl, alone, at night, never crossed my mind. He lifted me up and started to kiss me. He even asked me to kiss him back. When he put me back down, he told me not to tell anyone.
I am not saying every worker must be denied housing here; I've met a few who are very nice. I'm saying the Government should have a better place, where young idiot girls cannot slip in. Yes, I asked for trouble. But can the Government stop any reckless tomboy from entering the dormitory? Teresa Ess (Miss)
