It doesn't matter who Singapore was playing. Look at how happy and united Singaporeans were. Look at how many showed up to support and watch the match.

Contrast that with what you see in today's $387 million YOG.

I think when Fandi lifted the cup that year, the Singapore team had at least 3 foreigners in the team - Jang Jung, Abbas Saad and Alastair Edwards.
But the issue is not and has never been the presence of foreigners in SG.
The issue can be broken up into 2 questions:
Why is the government letting the foreigners in?
Why are the foreigners here?
In the Malaysia cup case, the answer to the first question is that they were good players who contributed positively to the team. The answer to the second question is that the foreigners wanted to represent Singapore and get paid for it.

In many cases now, many foreigners are let in who are not talents at all. And even if they are here for the money, they are not being sincere and upfront about it and there are increasing cases of scamming and crime. There's more and more deception these days, pretending to want to be citizens, pretending to want to serve NS, pretending to join the grassroots and "serve the country", etc etc.

in a way, we cant compare football technical standards in 70s or 80s and now. Nowadays, football are very tactical and very defensive. There wont be so much space in football today for Fandi or others to score so many goals. Is the same for any where in the world, goals-per-game has gone down alot.

but is true that Msia Cup days bring alot of fun to the genuine football fans out there. Nowadays, fans who attend matches mainly because they bet. If never bet, I dont think more than 200 will watch S League game

How did Singapore lose our way and end up where we are?

Since the early 90s or even the lat 80s the PAP has consistently destroyed a lot of our buildings and way of living that helped us to have a Singaporean identity. We could talk about the old National Library, the ponggol makan places, Bugis Street etc. Even Newton was supposed to have been taken down but after complaints they decided to let it stay after a lot of renovation until it doesn't look like the old Newton anymore.

While other countries hold on to their heritage, the PAPies were constantly tearing down infrastructure that had a heritage that the true Singaporeans could relate to.

The PAPies have planned this influx of FTs for a long time and not just he last 5-7 years. For a long time they know that they were disliked by the people despite winning elections. Just look at their election crowds and you know how interested people are in the PAP or truly support the PAP.

The influx of FT is to get new votes to fight against the votes that they lose from true Singaporeans.

The PAPies are a bunch of bastard mercenaries who will do everything to stay in power.

Last time, most FTs were in banking and finance. Now we have FTs in every industry. And why do we need so many FTs? Because the FTs are to serve the FTs! We do not need so many FTs if we are to serve our population or even based on world demand for our services and goods.

All this talk about we need FTs because of glabalisation is hoodwinking. Most factories are already in China and Vietnam for many years already and this will not change even if we bring in 1million Vietnamese. The cost of land and other costs is already too high that low labour costs cannot fight against.

We really have to kick out the mercenaries. Everyone please spend some time to educate yourself and then to share with your loved ones or even taxi drivers or a Singaporean that you may meet in a coffeshop or on a flight.

The PAPies have to go. If you think this is bad, it will get worse. I can assure you that another 500,000 to 1,000,000 FTs will come within the next 5 years if the PAPies are still in power.
