Jia lat ah! So expect the FAP to justify all the greedy scorched earth and pro-FTrash policies from now on? And did the FAP not say that TT was independent? So fast show true colour already and admit FAP linkage ah?

SINGAPORE: Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Dr Yaacob Ibrahim has congratulated president-elect Tony Tan, on behalf of the Muslim community.

Dr Yaacob, who is also the Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts, said Dr Tony Tan has done a lot for the Muslim community.

He was speaking to reporters after attending Hari Raya morning prayers at the Assyafaah Mosque in Sembawang.

"(Dr Tony Tan) he was here at this mosque in 2004, 2005, if I remember correctly, especially after 9/11, trying to reach out to the Muslim community, trying to explain what is it we can do together, with the country, with the nation- to strengthen social cohesion. So we're happy for this outcome, but we'll continue to work with whoever that's been elected - in this case Dr Tan - to build a stronger Singapore."

When asked whether the narrow win by Dr Tan in the presidential election revealed a political divide within the country, Dr Yaacob disagreed.

He said votes for Dr Tony Tan and Dr Tan Cheng Bock, both former PAP MPs, together made up 70 per cent of total votes.

"I think there's a strong support for the party in that sense.
But it's clear that there are people who are divided, as explained by the Prime Minister, that were basically having to decide between two very very good candidates which are Dr Tony Tan and Dr Tan Cheng Bock.

"But going forward, I think the process reflects a maturity for democracy, that we're able to agree to disagree. But most important thing is, as the Prime Minister has said now, we have to move forward and build the nation together."

Dr Yaacob also touched on the Mufti's message to the Malay community here.

It was Mufti Dr Mohamed Fatris Bakaram's first Hari Raya message since he took over as Singapore's top Islamic religious leader at the beginning of the year.

Dr Yaacob said the Mufti's key message was for the Malay community to differentiate between needs and wants.

He added the message was especially timely, with the economy possibly taking a dip in the near future.

In his message to the Malay-Muslim community on Monday, Dr Yaacob urged them to be prepared for dark clouds which are gathering.

"I think we need to readjust our expectations and calibrate what is it that's important for our family, and he pointed out education, healthcare - these are the things we have to look after. So I think the message is timely, and I hope the Malay community will take into account what has been said by the Mufti, so that we can plan our years ahead in light of the possible changes to the economic structure."

This Yakult is despised by the Malay community and from whom he gets no respect. They always mention his name with disgust. If TT has done a lot for the Malay community, what has Mr Yakult himself done?

Ask TT why the Kampung Mosque in Sembawang was not given Heritage status since during his time he encouraged and held it out as a carrot for those Muslims in the north? Now that he is retired, its all coveniently forgotten? Maybe as a President he can try to push it through again.

Yes the Mufti is right. We should question the existence of MUIS as a want or a need? Why waste the money on this organisation. I doubt Muslims need an organisation to tell them what is in the Islamic lawbooks.

Many of my Malay friends told me that Yaacult is not that popular with the Malay community.. Even the new Mufti is regarded by many Malays to be another useless puppet of the PAP.. Yaacult is either blur fuck or he's daft... 70% mandate..??? He and the new Mufti can go and ass fuck each other..

What warped logic? 35%(TT) +35%(TCB)=70% Mandate for ruling party. Therefore, no split? Might as well say P(presidential)E =P(parliamentary)E. Rocket Science, I suppose!

Incredible math at work, he has shown just how strong Malays are at math.

He should also include ex cadre TKL and ex PPS TJS and get 100% support for PAP

Yakult really a dog.

"Has done a lot............"
Can he give some concrete examples instead of just making a sweeping statement?

i thought all along pap say president should be non-political or above politics. now tt win already suddenly become politically linked to pap again. lol.

Yacult is only scoring a consolation goal lah. If there are 70% still supporting the party, then the results in GE 2011 will not fall to 60.1%. Wake up lah yacult!!!
