乘波体是指一种适宜高超音速飞行的气动外形，飞行时飞行器的前缘平面与激波的上表面重合，就象骑在激波的波面上，依靠激波的压力产生升力，所以叫乘波体。乘波体高超音速飞行器在高空大气层进行机动，如果把大气层边缘看作水面，乘波体飞行时就像是在水面上打水漂，这种“飘忽”的弹道可以突破现有的反导拦截手段，被认为是未来战略打击武器的发展趋势。
