Town Council: Kuda Kepang horse dance is not allowed in housing estates
Sembawang Town Council has disallowed Kuda Kepang performances in their estates as it may endanger the safety of both performers and members of the public.
In an earlier article, STOMPer Rashid had asked if it was legal to be practising Kuda Kepang, a horse dance trance that originates from Java, in a public open space. According to the STOMPer, the Kuda Kepang activities had damaged the grass patch and caused accidents to passers-by.
A spokesperson for the town council said:
"Sembawang Town Council does not allow the performance of Kuda Kepang in our estates.
"The main reason for disallowing the Kuda Kepang is that certain aspects of the performance can compromise the safety and health of both the performers and members of the public.
"In addition, we did not approve any permit for the use of open space next to Block 609 in Woodlands.
"We will continue to monitor the situation closely and will alert the Singapore Police Force when we come across such unauthorised activities.
"We thank STOMPer Rashid for his feedback."
