A FORMER satay businessman says he hopes to contest in the upcoming presidential election.
Mr Mohamed Raffi Bashir Ahmed collected application forms from the Elections Department yesterday, reported The Straits Times.
The 50-year-old ran afoul of the law in January this year for driving a van spray-painted with expletives into the headquarters of the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (Muis).
He was arrested again in March for disorderly behaviour and using expletives on police officers. He was freed on bail of $8,000 after he was remanded at the Institute of Mental Health.
Mr Mohamed ran a satay business but it was shut down in 2007 due to financial difficulties. He has since set up a new company selling frozen fast food.
He joins others, such as former foreign minister George Yeo, former NTUC Income chief executive Tan Kin Lian, former MP Tan Cheng Bock and former private tutor Ooi Boon Ewe, in the presidential election.
