Father's gratitude
'My worries disappeared the moment I reached the ICA counter.'
MR GAN TECHIONG: 'My 11-year-old daughter travels from Johor Baru to attend school in Singapore daily. One day, I received a phone call at 7.15pm from an Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officer who asked me to fetch my daughter because she had forgotten to collect her passport from her school teacher. My worries disappeared the moment I reached the ICA counter. A pleasant and helpful officer, Mr Elhafiez Putra, made a quick phone call and soon I was in the arrivals office, where a Mr Arumugam told me not to worry as he had made a call. Within 10 minutes, a policewoman appeared with my daughter - who had never looked so pleased to see her father. Our return to Johor Baru was solved by a young policeman on a bicycle who could have left us at the immigration gate. Instead, he guided us over the next 50m and made sure we were well on the Causeway. My daughter told me that, while she was waiting for me, an ICA officer had asked her if she was hungry and bought her snacks from the staff canteen.'
