It is just one month old and it took them 23 years to build it. It is 8.5 km long and people use it more as an attraction. We are going to explore the Almaty Metro, Kazakhstan.

The Almaty Metro opened on December 1st, 2011. Construction works began in the Soviet time in 1988 but after the fall of the USSR, the construction was frozen to be resumed in 2005.

how can that be better than singapore. underground station that have no doors, what about the people who going to jump train, or push down and have their legs cut off.

It is unacceptable for new station that have no doors to protect user from the track.

Most Metro systems in the world do not have doors on the platform indoor or outdoor. Notable examples are London Tube and Washington DC Metro.

Singapore too did not have protective doors in outdoor platforms when it first started. And SMRT resisted to put gates on outdoor platforms for a long time until the accident rate got too high. The installation of protective doors is not only a cost issue but also has operational implication, an additional sub-system in the signalling system that will add to the overall failure rate of the system. Indoor protective doors come in only when it is designed for high congestion. Singapore follows this principle.

In a normal traffic network, there is an acceptable cost benefit balance to do away with protective doors unless the society is so extremely stressed that can lead to commuters deliberately harming themselves.

When the MRT system just got build in Singapore it was claimed, rightly so to be the best. Wait another 50 years and we will see if this would end up to be the best or not. New things are usually better in the first couple of years at least.

yeah old station in london dun have doors, but all new station have it. old station have no space to put doors, and worse some are curve, how do you make doors for these old station.

but like the thread starter said, this is new station, why their indoor station have no doors?

singapore have doors in all indoor station from the start.

Singapore itself had the same MRT without anything to prevent suicide for OVER 10 YEARS! And there were no suicide nor accidents. Only until PAP started to get more greedy.

That showed THE problem.

You can dream of designs that prevents this and that. No! They can all be abused and compromised if someone wants to.

Reservoirs had been free of suicide and existed in SG for over 100 years since the British Colonial era. What happened now.?

Designs can at the most just cause some deterrents towards abuses.

The lack of abuses when there is nothing to prevent them, shows a perfection. Otherwise it shows only problems an crisis. Designs are only patches to the problems an crisis. Not solutions. You patch the MRT they jumped reservoir. That's it!

You want redesign reservoirs? They will jump from fly-overs!

They opened a metro in Kazan in 2005 to celebrate the city’s thousandth birthday. It became the 7th metro in Russia and the first metro to be built after the fall of the Soviet Union. Currently, the Kazan Metro includes seven metro stations and one line of 11 km long. Trains arrive at the stations each 6 to 10 minutes. It is open from 6 a.m. till 11 p.m. Over 100,000 people use the metro daily.

Kozya Sloboda Station is the newest station of the metro.
