SM Goh on five-day working visit to Italy

SINGAPORE: Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong is in Italy for a five-day working visit. He will be in Milan from 20 to 22 April and will meet the President of the Lombardy Region, Roberto Formigoni, and Milan's mayor, Letizia Moratti.
Mr Goh will address members of Lombardy's Committee for Strategic Competitiveness over a lunch meeting chaired by President Formigoni.
Senior officials from the Lombardy government and prominent Italian businessmen will attend the meeting.
Mr Goh will also witness the signing of a Memorandum of Intent between Singapore's leading research agency A*STAR and the Lombardy government, aimed at increasing research collaboration between Singapore and the Lombardy region.
A Memorandum of Understanding will also be inked between IE Singapore and the City of Milan to promote economic exchanges.
In addition, Mr Goh will visit the International Furniture Fair in Milan, one of the leading events in the design world, where a number of Singapore furniture designers are showcasing their collections.
Mr Goh will be hosted to lunch by President of the Council of Ministers, Silvio Berlusconi in Rome.
He will also meet Minister for Foreign Affairs Franco Frattini and former Prime Minister Romano Prodi.
Mr Goh is accompanied by Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry and Education S Iswaran, as well as senior officials from various ministries and government agencies. - CNA/vm
