CHIANG RAI - Police arrested two women on Monday for trafficking a kilogramme of crystal methamphetamine, or ice, found hidden in their brassieres.
Sripai Siput, 43, from Khon Kaen, and Maneerat Ngam-nangnak, 35, from Sakon Nakhon, were among the passengers in a bus travelling from Chiang Rai to Bangkok, police said.
The two women, who sat beside each other, had acted suspiciously when a police officer was making a search of the bus. They had trembled and looked nervous as the officer approached them.
A police woman was later summoned to search both women and she found four small balloons containing the illegal drug hidden inside their bras.
They allegedly confessed that they had restorted to acting as drug couriers because they lost all of their money gambling.
The pair said a middle-aged woman offered them 50,000 baht each to take the drugs to Bangkok. The woman told them to collect the drugs from a man in Chiang Rai's Mae Sai district, which borders Myanmar.
Police charged them with having illegal drugs in their possession with intent to sell.
