Woman tricked into ‘investing’ RM29,900
KUCHING: A 56-year-old woman lost RM29,854.95 in a scam which allegedly used Barisan Nasional’s name. She was approached by a woman at the Jalan Masjid Polyclinic yesterday at around 11am asking her to “invest” in the coalition and reap huge dividends after the state election.
The victim and a friend brought the woman to a bank at Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg to withdraw the money. They then went in a car with the suspect and two male accomplices to another bank in Satok, where the victim was told to wait in the car while the suspect deposited the money.
Another man emerged from the bank with the suspect, asking the victim to sign a paper with the name of the bank on it. After that, the victim and her friend were sent home. The victim eventually realised she had been cheated and lodged a police report later in the evening.
