SINGAPORE - A woman has pleaded guilty to stabbing her female lover's boyfriend in a fit of rage, The Straits Times (ST) reported.

The court heard that Mr Kelly Ong Bi Hao, 27, had gone to the Bedok apartment of Ms Lin Pei Ying, 27, on the morning of Jan 1, 2012 to have breakfast together.

The accused, Teo Ming Min, 29, then arrived at the apartment and was let in by Ms Lin's sister, who was just leaving the house.

Teo had been in a relationship with Ms Lin for about three years.

Mr Ong was in the bedroom of Ms Lin, and came out. Upon seeing him leaving her room, Teo questioned Ms Lin about her boyfriend.

Mr Ong retreated to the toilet while the Ms Lin explained the situation, which escalated to Teo becoming agitated and stabbing Mr Ong repeatedly when he came out of the toilet.

The graphic designer stabbed Mr Ong twice in the chest and once in his back.

It has been confirmed by an Institute of Mental Health doctor that Teo is suffering from anxiety and depression and these contributed to the attack.

She is currently receiving medical treatment and counselling. Her sentencing is awaiting a pre-sentence report to be delivered on July 24.

She went to her girlfriend’s home and found a man coming out of the bedroom.

Enraged that her lover spent the night with the man, the woman later lunged at him and stabbed him a few times with a knife. Yesterday, Teo Ming Min, 29, a graphic designer, was sentenced to two years’ probation by a district judge for voluntarily causing hurt to the man, Channel News Asia reported.

In the report, District Judge Ng Peng Hong was also quoted as saying that it was an "exceptional case which did not warrant a custodial sentence” and called it a “crime of passion”. On 1 January this year, Teo visited her girlfriend, Ms Lin Pei Ying, 27, at a flat at Bedok North Road.

Soon after, she saw Mr Kelly Ong Bi Hao, 27, coming out of Ms Lin’s bedroom, and she started getting upset. Later, when Mr Ong came out of the toilet, she took out a knife with a 14-cm blade from her sling bag, and stabbed him twice in the front and once at the back before Ms Lin stopped her.

Teo reportedly put the knife in her bag for “protection”, the court heard. Mr Ong was taken to hospital for treatment, and police arrested Teo when she went to the hospital to check on him. Teo’s lawyer, Mr Ravinderpal Singh, told the court that Teo had been in a relationship with Ms Lin for three years before Mr Ong came along.

He said that Teo was “actually a timid individual” who felt “gutted” after her girlfriend started a relationship with another man, Channel NewsAsia reported. After the incident, Teo has been going for counselling sessions with her church pastor and getting medical treatment as well.

In sentencing her, District Judge Ng also chided Teo for what she did, saying that it was a result of her “poor anger management skills, poor problem-solving skills and poor regard of the law”. He ordered Teo’s parents to post a S$5,000 bond to ensure their daughter's good behaviour.
