Woman ordered to undergo treatment for hurting pregnant woman
SINGAPORE: A woman has been ordered to undergo treatment for jabbing a pregnant woman in the abdomen.
52-year-old Lee Su Min, who suffers from bipolar affective disorder, had jabbed 29-year-old Noretta Muhammad Ibrahim Jocola in the abdomen in April last year.
The victim was seven months' pregnant at that time.
Investigations showed that the two women were waiting for taxis along Dunearn Road when Lee jabbed the pregnant woman with her hand.
The woman and her baby were unharmed.
In a separate incident in October 2011, Lee grabbed a thick book in a book store in Bras Basah Complex and slapped the cashier, 36-year-old Chong Ming Kiat, on her right cheek.
Four other charges of causing hurt and theft involving other victims were stood down.
In mitigation, the court heard that Lee, a divorcee with a 19-year-old daughter, has been suffering from bipolar affective disorder, and has been a patient of the Institute of Mental Health since 1998.
For causing hurt voluntarily, Lee could have been jailed up to two years and fined S$5,000 on each count. - CNA/xq
