Woman jailed for false report
By Elena Chong
A YOUNG woman who lied that she was molested by three men was jailed for two weeks on Thursday for giving false information to the police. Siti Nur Baizura Aman, 21, then a Singapore Airport Terminal Services officer, had admitted to giving false information in a statement at Bedok North Neighbourhood Police Centre that she was molested by three unknown men near Griffiths Primary School along Tampiines Street 22 on Oct 3 last year.
The court heard that she claimed she was walking alone towards her home when two men held her hands against the school fence while a third covered her mouth. They then molested her. Despite being warned of the seriousness of making a false report, she maintained her story. She even gave a description of the men to the police during a re-interview two days later.
The investigation officer conducted inquiries from SBS as well as nearby coffeeshops. On viewing the buses' CCTV recordings, the officer discovered Siti talking to a man after alighting from a bus, but could not see any of the claimed subjects at the bus stop. When she was interviewed again on Oct 21, she confessed that she had given false information. She could have been jailed for up to one year and/or fined up to $5,000.
