Woman jailed for abusing four-year-old daughter

A woman was jailed for seven months today for ill-treating her four-year-old daughter.

The 25-year-old accused had admitted to repeatedly caning and kicking the victim and throwing a chair towards her between Nov 22, 2010 and Jan 29 last year.

She also pleaded guilty to repeatedly caning, slapping, kicking her and using clothes pegs to pinch her back between February and March last year.

A district court heard that the accused had care and custody of the victim, now six, who was born out of wedlock. She has two other daughters arising out of a relationship with her 31-year-old ex-boyfriend.

When her mother was pregnant with her, her father left - never to return.

After little Elisa (not her real name) was born, her mother hooked up with a married man and moved in with the couple. She later bore the man two children.

In 2010, when Elisa was four years old, things became worse after her mother physically abused her.

The 25-year-old mother was yesterday jailed seven months on two counts of ill-treating Elisa, now six, by repeatedly caning and kicking her over a four-month period.

Her ex-boyfriend, whom she lived with in a Geylang flat from 2007 to January last year, said she told him that Eliza reminded her of her ex-boyfriend.
