Cops arrest Ramchandra Gomane (centre), the servant accused in the Peddar Rd case.
The police say Ila Gandhi and her 78-year-old mother, Champa Gauri Gandhi, were assaulted at the behest of Champa’s daughter-in-law Rupal, who has now been arrested. The police say a severely injured Champa managed to nod at the name of their domestic servant Ramchandra Gomane when asked who had attacked her and her daughter.
“Gomane, 23, told us that Rupal had asked him to kill both women for the sake of the flat in which they were living, which is worth a hundred thousand rupees,” said a police officer. According to information with the police, 44-year-old Rupal used to have constant fights with Ila and Champa and would even hesitate to introduce them to her friends. Rupal had to cook food for the duo every day and she was fed up of taking care of them.
Ila, they said, suffered from schizophrenia. Up till a few years ago, Rupal and her husband Deepak would stay in the same flat as the two women. However, Rupal convinced Deepak – who owns a pharmacy business – to move to a flat on the third floor of the same building. An officer from the said, “Rupal never liked her husband spending time with his sister and mother. On Diwali she even had a huge fight with Champa.”
