SINGAPORE - Former Straits Times correspondent Joanne Lee was stalked by a woman, Amy Chua, claiming to be her husband. From 2008 till Ms Lee brought her to court in 2011, Chua was responsible for countless letters, emails, gifts and voice mails that left Ms Lee fearing for her life. Speaking to RazorTV, Ms Lee, 36, revealed that the harassment started innocently enough with Chua, 34, sending letters saying she was a fan of her television news programme.

The freelance interior designer then progressed to sending emails everyday professing her love for Ms Lee.

"Initially it was just rambling, saying things like she's got a Dior Cinderella glass slipper that fell out of my fairytale book," Lee said. "It started out as silly as that to things like 'god told me that you love me' or 'I saw you in church the other day. Were you wearing a mini skirt with an Afro?' "And then it got kind of sinister and it was like 'did you sleep with this woman, did you sleep with that man. Did you cheat on me? Do you love that woman?'"

Things then took a scary turn after Ms Lee's first police report. Chua started leaving Ms Lee voice mails where she would be screaming and shouting.
In one message, Chua said: "Do you know what you put me through when you called the police and I have to go down to be questioned all the time?'" In others, a slurring Chua would say: "I didn't mean it...I love you... it's not you dont worry. Even if it were you, don't worry honey, I forgive you completely. I love you."

"When I first heard them I broke down in tears a few times because it was very disturbing to say the least," said Ms Lee "And then there are other times when she (Chua) calls and leave messages when she's obviously drugged up. "She'll say 'sorry for what I said before, I still want you, we're still married, and I don't want to divorce you." "It's hard listening to it", Ms Lee added.

Joann took action when Chua wrote in an email that she was thinking of finding her and taking her on holiday. "What really scared me was when she (Chua) wrote in an email, 'Joanne, I'm thinking of taking out my life savings so that I can hire a PI to find you so that I can come and whisk you away on holiday.' Lee feared that she would be abducted and called the police.

After investigations, Chua was fined $4,000 and ordered to stay away from Ms Lee.
