A woman in Tamil Nadu staged her own kidnapping to help her lover financially without the knowledge of her husband.
Malaysia Nanban reported that the Chennai police let her off with a warning on Monday.
Police said that Nivedha, 28, from West Mambalam, had pledged gold jewellery with a pawnbroker about a month ago and had given the money to her lover, Vetri.
She then brought imitation jewellery of the same design to deceive her husband Nagaraj, 29.
When the imitation jewellery started to fade, she decided to fake the kidnap.
She told her husband she was not well and wanted to go to her parent's house in Mylapore, about 15km away. She instead went to Vellore with her lover on Saturday.
Nivedha called her husband on Monday evening and told him a group of women abducted her and she lost all her jewellery.
Chennai police questioned her on her return and she finally told the truth.
