AN INDONESIAN maid was arrested soon after an elderly woman was found dead in her terrace house on Farleigh Avenue, in Serangoon Gardens estate, early on Thursday morning.
The 23-year-old maid had worked for the 87-year-old woman for barely a week, said neighbours.
The woman, with a cut on her forehead, was found lying motionless on the floor in the living room after police received a call at about 3.15am. She was pronounced dead at 3.40am.
The maid is said to have flagged down a taxi and told the cabby to call the police about the dead body. She then went back to the house to wait for police to turn up.
Neighbours said they often heard the old woman scolding her maid and complaining about her performance.
One of them, who would only be known as Madam Tan, 65, said the elderly woman had recently told her that she would send the maid home after eight months as she was not happy with her work. The maid is helping police in their investigations. The case has been classified as murder.
