A woman lost RM40,000, including a motorcycle, to a man she had only known for a few months, reported Harian Metro.
The 29-year-old victim got to know the man, in his 30s, at the end of July.
She took five personal loans from four banks and money-lending companies to give him cash.
A police source said the victim also gave him a motorcycle.
"After receiving the gifts, the suspect disappeared. Realising she had been conned, the victim made a police report at the Ampang Jaya police station last Friday," said the source.
The victim said the suspect promised to marry her.
She said she borrowed the money to help him start a car wash business.
"She also gave him RM5,000 and her handphone," said the source, adding that the man disappeared early this month.
Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Zainuddin Ahmad confirmed receiving a report and said investigations would be conducted.
