Around 180,000 foreign workers in the construction industry and their dependants are to be on stay-home notices
starting today (Monday). These 180,000 workers and their families are now staying in factory-converted dormitories,
temporary quarters on construction sites and private residential premises such are shop houses.
This the cock-up:
The late announcement on Saturday caught the building industry off guard, with contractors having to spend SUNDAY
to make arrangements for their workers. You can bet your last dollar that they won't have found it easy. These workers
will be squeezed, at least for one week, if not longer while potential landlords are persuaded to take in workers whose
category account for 95% of new cases. So how?
Another knee-jerk reaction by Josephine Teo and her merry cabinet colleagues.
Really, the is a kitchen cabinet decision.
