SUSPECT DETAINED: Man was slashed by drunk neighbour
IPOH: AN odd-job worker who was repeatedly slashed by a drunk neighbour had his wife to thank for saving his life.
She threw curry powder at the assailant to stop him from continuing his attack.
The incident happened about 9pm on Friday when S. Nagalingam, 41, was at home in Kamping Kovil, Menglembu.
Sources said the victim and his wife were in the kitchen when two assailants, said to be their neighbours, stormed into their house.
"One of the suspects, who came armed with a parang, started slashing Nagalingam, severing his left ear.
"The victim's quick- thinking wife saved him from further harm by throwing curry powder into both the suspects' eyes," said the source.
Doctors at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun's intensive care unit managed to reattach Nagalingam's ear.
The source said the victim and the suspects had not been seeing eye to eye for some time. "The assailants were believed to be drunk on the day of the attack."
State Criminal Investigations Department chief Datuk Dzuraidi Ibrahim confirmed the incident and said one of the suspects was nabbed on Saturday.
"We are still looking for the main suspect."
