A chef has been charged by police after he allegedly stabbed a customer with a metal skewer when he complained about the service at a restaurant in Sydney's west.
The 43-year-old chef will face court next month charged with reckless wounding following the confrontation at a restaurant in Lakemba on March 31.
Paramedics were called to Red Chilli, a Pakistani and Indian restaurant, on Haldon Street about 11.35pm to reports that a skewer had been plunged straight through a man's hand.
Police said five men were at a restaurant on Haldon Street when they made a complaint about how long it had taken to deliver their meals.
An argument broke out between the men and restaurant staff at the front counter, when the chef allegedly grabbed a long metal skewer from the kitchen and began threatening the men with it.
The argument spilled out onto the street, before the customers walked away down Haldon Street and the chef returned inside.
However police say the chef then returned to the street and attempted to strike one of the men with the skewer.
The skewer pierced the palm of a 47-year-old man and exited through the other side of his hand.
The injured man was taken to the Sydney Hospital, which specialises in hand injuries, for surgery.
On Wednesday, police from Campsie Local Area Command arrested the chef at Campsie Police Station and charged him with reckless wounding.
He was granted conditional bail to appear at Burwood Local Court on May 2.
