Officers at the Woodlands Checkpoint had to use spanners and hammers to force open the inner walls of two human—sized ovens on Wednesday morning. The metal walls had been secured with nuts and bolts. The consignment was being transported from a warehouse in Johor Bahru, Malaysia to another warehouse in Senoko Loop, Singapore. When questioned, the driver denied knowledge of the contraband cigarettes.
Potential customs duty payable amounted to S$140,700, while GST was calculated at S$12,700.If convicted, the driver could be fined up to 20 times the amount of duty unpaid and face further fines for GST evasion.

Oh dear, no, no. Customs approved cigarettes have the appropriate health warning labels that advise you the dangers of smoking and the tax duties paid, go to the government expenditures meant to make Singapore a better place for you and me. In addition, should there be any additional toxic substances purposely introduced into the cigarettes to increase profit margins of producers, it is relatively easier to pursue such immoral perpertrators.
