Going tapeless is the way forward for media industry
SINGAPORE : Taking on digital formats and going tapeless is the way forward for Singapore's media industry, according to a industry roundtable session organised by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore on Friday.
The forum, called Digital Marketplace Roundtable, saw government and industry players discussing ways to adopt global best practices to improve the digital media business here.
Areas of discussion included content security, standardisation of digital content, as well as storage and distribution.
Big industry players like HBO, Motion Pictures Association and Oracle, as well as MediaCorp Technologies took part in the forum.
Singapore hopes to create 1,000 new jobs for the digital media and entertainment sector in the next seven years.
And S$1 billion is the revenue target for this growing sector.
Yeo Kim Pow, Senior VP, MediaCorp Technologies, Broadcast Engineering, said: "For such an electronic marketplace to work, we also need to exchange information about the content. Such information content is known in the industry as metadata content. It is very important to standardise metadata terms so that we can have an automatic metadata exchange between content owners and content consumer systems." - CNA
