Why allocate percentage of coffeeshop space for smoking?
why not ban them 100% and set up new 'Smokers Only' coffeeshop?
Non smokers enter at their own risk!
why those mother fcukering men in white can't think?
by allocating 10 or 20 % is a big fcuking joke!
don't believe?
ask those non smokers seating next to smoking zone.
SINGAPORE: The National Environment Agency (NEA) is considering banning smoking in coffee shops completely.
But a survey by two coffee shop associations found that only one in four supported this move.
Currently, coffee shops designate 20 per cent of their space for smokers.
The question is whether the whole coffee shop be a non-smoking zone.
Only about 25 per cent of about 1,750 polled said ‘yes’ and felt that this would reduce the risk of second hand smoke.
43 per cent of those surveyed agreed that the current regulations are effective as most people only smoke in those areas.
A third of the respondents were neutral.
The survey was commissioned by Singapore Foochow Coffee Restaurant and Bar Merchants Association and Kheng Keow Coffee Merchants Restaurant & Bar-Owners Association, which have about 700 members.
It was carried out in 16 coffee shops and four hawker centres in January and February.
The NEA delayed plans to completely ban smoking in coffee shops last year after repeated dialogues with two coffee shop associations.
The associations said in the worst-case scenario, they hope NEA can at least maintain a 10 per cent smoking area. - CNA/vm
