Why PM gave permission to Ah Tan's 5 week cooking course?

In the midst of the this furore over Tan Yong Song's little holiday in Paris, everyone seems to have lost sight of 1 important fact. There is no way that Tan is able to go on such long 5 week leave without his boss's approval. Who is his boss? Since he is the Perm Sec in the PMO, his immediate superior must be PM Lee HL. Furthermore, PM must have known he was going to a fancy culinary course in Paris. The fact that he approved Tan's leave shows equally poor judgement. He must think that in this day and age of economic distress, having an expensive good time is more important than the poor image it projects. Indeed, non of this would have happened if Ah Loong pulled Tan into his office and explained to him that his leave will not be granted for the obvious reasons. Failure to do so shows poor judgement, incompetent leadership, and certainly, unworthiness of his multimillion dollar salary. So, when Adm teo reprimanded Tan, he is indirectly reprimanding the idiot who gave him the leave in the first place.

I am sorry you've got your perspective wrong.
TYS is not a lesser mortal according to someone in power. He draws a 7-figure salary as perm sec. He is a civil servant and public figure and must be sensitve to the perception and feelings of the lesser mortals he lords over. But instead he chose to leave his brain behind when he boasts about his culinery adventure in France while many in this little red dot country who paid him are striving to survive in this hard times. Are we overpaying civil servants too much that they are thinking of more creative ways to spend money. TYS is the perfect bad example of our civil servants.

Wondering who will be taking up exhorbitant ballet or singing courses next.

U are a symptom of what is wrong in singapore. Brainless fucks who can't think straight. Let me explain something to you. This guy is a very senior government figure. In fact, he is actually a deputy minister as he is second in rank in his ministry. When he travel overseas, even on vacation, people know who he is. He represents all singaporeans, and his behaviour must be beyond reproach. You and I are nobody. The govt. of France don't fuck care whether go to Paris to buy cannabis or fuck French pros. If we get photographed with a naked french girl, the most it will show up on Youtube. If he is photographed with a naked french girl, it will be in all the national newspapers. Therefore, his boss has EVERY RIGHT to ask him where he is going and what he is going to do there. It reflects on the republic of singapore. the deed is done, Tan spent the $, Teo delivered his tongue lashing speech, Lee folds his arms nodding...... after the whole drama, and the $ spent, will the french cooking school refund the $? or r the chef instructors there laughing all the way to their banks?

1. it takes an idiot to sign up for the expensive culinary course, when he doesnt even cook his own meals.
2. it takes an idiot who doesnt even express interest in learning to cook local flavors, while the courses are a whole lot more humble. surely learning from his own mother would've cost nearly nothing.
3. it takes a perfect idiot to spend that kind of $, come back & boast about it on the media, inspite of the ailing economy.
