</TR><!-- headline one : end --><!-- show image if available --></TBODY></TABLE>

<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->I REFER to last Saturday's report, 'Medisave can be used for two mental illnesses from Oct 1'.
It is heartening to know that the Government has now allowed patients with mental illnesses to tap their Medisave funds to a maximum of $300 a year for consultation, medication and tests at public hospitals, polyclinics and clinics.
My mother, who has been a schizophrenia patient for the past 10 years, will benefit from this.
However, I wonder if this can be extended to private clinics?
We used to go to a polyclinic to treat my mother's illness but she found the wait draining, even though the bill was one-quarter of that at a private clinic. The few times we took her to the polyclinic, she was edgy and uncomfortable as the wait crept up to two hours each time. We decided to switch to a private clinic after that.
My mother sees a private psychiatrist every two months now and we pay $200 each time for her consultation and medication. The wait is around an hour, but it is more pleasant and comfortable as the place is air-conditioned.

Every now and than when the MOH are happy they will announce another sickness where medisave can be used.
Shouldn't the MOH made the system easier by allowing usage for all medical condition. Fancy falling sick and having to foot out cash to pay your own medical bills when you have much unusable medisave.
Let work out a simple system. How would you like to pay your medical bill? Cash Nets Credit card or medisave?
Why must our government hold back our money just like the CPF? First it was 55 than 60 again 62 now it seem never as they had devised a scheme that you might never see it.
The government must be generous not only to the FT. They should treat the Singaporean better
