Out on bail: Naked couple in Holland Village

A CROWD cheered as a naked couple strolled down Lorong Mambong in Holland Village last Saturday evening.
Manager Terence Chia, 30, of the Baden Restaurant and Pub, told The Straits Times yesterday that he saw the couple - a Caucasian man and his Japanese-looking companion - taking off their clothes at the staircase leading to a nearby Housing Board block of flats.
'Then, clothes in hand, they coolly walked in their flip-flops towards the market,' he said.
Passers-by and patrons seated outside the eateries were the first to notice the couple in the buff.
Instead of being embarrassed by the attention, the couple, who appeared to be in their mid-20s, smiled and waved at the shocked spectators, said staff at other restaurants.
The man was described as being about 1.8m tall, with short hair, while the woman was petite, about 1.7m tall, with a 'China-doll hairstyle'.
Waitress Jill Yang, 19, watched the couple walking hand in hand and turning right into the road between a Haagen-
Dazs outlet and the market.
'I felt my face tingling with embarrassment, but the couple were oblivious to the stares they were getting,' she said
And there was to be an encore.
The couple made a U-turn and retraced their walk.
This time, the crowd was ready.
'There were more than 200 people and everyone was taking pictures,' said Mr Chia. 'Even women were busy clicking away and people were cheering, whistling and applauding like crazy.'
The couple stopped for a brief chat with patrons of the Wala Wala bar before dressing again once they reached the staircase.
The whole show lasted about 15 minutes.
Police said they have arrested a man and a woman. Both have been released on police bail pending investigations.
If convicted of appearing naked in public, they can be fined up to $2,000 each and jailed for up to three months.
