SINGAPORE - Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong has revealed on Facebook that one of the two generals - although he stopped short of stating which one - who stepped down from the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) last week will understudy him in the Marine Parade Group Representative Constituency (GRC).
According to sources, the person Mr Goh was referring to is likely to be Brigadier-General (BG) Tan Chuan Jin, 42.
BG Tan retired from the SAF after 24 years of service, where he was commander of the Army Training and Doctrine Command.
Major-General (MG) Chan Chun Sing, 41, also relinquished his post as the Chief of Army. Both men are widely expected to be fielded as People's Action Party candidates in the coming General Election.
A source from Tanjong Pagar GRC told Channel NewsAsia that MG Chan is likely to be the candidate there.
In his latest entry on the Marine Parade Facebook page, Mr Goh said he had also given fellow Marine Parade GRC Member of Parliament Ong Seh Hong a farewell lunch, describing him as a good-hearted doctor who is selflessly stepping down. In an e-mail reply to MediaCorp, Dr Ong said the new candidate taking over him will be introduced to grassroots leaders this weekend.
