Why first meal of CNY must eat vegetarian?

Why so fake? Want to be vegetarian, yhen be vegetarian all the way. Why must first meal of CNY eat vegetarian only?

When I tell my mother that, she not happy.

That's for eve of CNY. I was told that CNY actual day first meal must eat vegetarian. Every year I hate the first meal of CNY.
