SINGAPORE: President S R Nathan held a garden reception on Sunday evening to recognise the efforts of over 800 staff from the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), Defence Ministry (MINDEF), and Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA).

The annual event at the Istana recognises their contributions to the defence of Singapore. Many of those present took the opportunity to take a rare photo with the president as well.

President Nathan also met with the five recipients of the NSmen of the Year award. They are Staff Sergeant (NS) Gwee Geok Hwee, Major (NS) Chan Yew Wing, Lieutenant-Colonel (NS) Lee Hee Kian, Lieutenant-Colonel (NS) Ng Teck Kin and Captain (NS) Lim Say Wei.

Also present at the event was Defence Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean.
