<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->I REFER to Ms Fatimah Bibi Mohmad Kunhi's letter ('CCTV place in area where women change into prayer attire', Oct 8) regarding her concern about the positioning of the closed-circuit TV (CCTV) in the women's prayer zone at Malabar Mosque.
According to her, the CCTV was aimed towards the area where female congregants change and adjust their dress before and after prayers in accordance with our religion's code of modesty. She added that there were no signs alerting congregants to the presence of the CCTV.
The Mosque Management Board had CCTVs installed in different areas of Malabar Mosque to ensure a security system that is cost-efficient.
There are CCTVs in the men's prayer zone and various places within the compound of the mosque as well.
The installation of the CCTV at the women's prayer zone became more urgent when we received reports of theft from donation boxes, foreigners spending the night in the prayer hall, and complaints from female congregants of people smoking in the aisle and sleeping in the prayer hall.
We assure our female congregants that we have provided curtain shields should they need to adjust their dress.
A sign drawing attention to the presence of the CCTV is placed at the staircase leading to the women's prayer hall. There is another sign underneath the CCTV at the prayer hall to caution female congregants that the CCTV is fully operational.
We thank Ms Fatimah for her feedback. She and other members of the public can contact the mosque for more information.
