Chinese women looking to earn a living in Singapore seem to end up making the news for the wrong reasons, says STOMPer Pity, referring to the mysterious death and disappearance of two China women.

Just two days ago (Mar 24), the naked body of 24-year-old Li Hong Yan was found dead in the lap pool of a Sentosa Cove lap pool.

The Chinese national had been moonlighting as a part-time karaoke hostess at KTV lounges along Havelock Road. She is said to have left the Las Vegas Lounge with Singaporean Adrian Chua Boon Chye, 39, late on Tuesday night.

The couple are believed to have gone to a Boat Quay pub before heading to his Sentosa Cove bungalow, where she spent the night.

The next morning, her naked body was found in the pool at the back of the house by a maid.

The other woman who recently made the headlines is Han Yanfei, a KTV lounge worker who has not been seen since November 8 last year. Her lover was found drowned the next day.

Saddened by the plight of these women, STOMPer Pity wonders why Chinese women who travel to Singapore to make a living often seem to end up in the worst situations.

In an email, Pity says:

"It is saddening to read about the death of Li Hong Yan.

"She was here to make a living and yet ended up dead in a pool.

"The mystery around the case makes the plight of Chinese women in Singapore even more worrying.

"I wonder what could have happened also in the previous case whereby a girl went missing and her lover found dead.

"Her mother didn't give up hope and according to reports, is still searching for her daughter, hoping to find her alive.

"It must be heartbreaking enough for these girls to leave their homes to build better lives overseas. Now their hopes and the dreams of their family are dashed and nobody can tell them why or how.

"I hope and pray that the families of these girls can receive some closure soon."
