They cannot do business. Do business means take risk an always at the growth phase of the cycle. Our fools always do it at the maturing phase. So when the investment is completed we are at the declining or terminating phase. Just like pyramid scheme latecomers. The same with oil futures hedging, the report was out 1.5 years ago, so technically speaking, the peak should have ended by June and July. Investment banks are usually USA made, and USA foreign policy vehicles. The renewable markets is a spin doctor to meant to collapse EU's equally unsustainable renewable energies spin doctor game. The current peak oil theory is rubbish. We probably will not reach peak oil for a few decades. Also, by then, more coal will be used and USA will reduce its oil consumption by 50% which will nicely match peak oil. USA plays to win. Leegime plays to get suckered. They are failures in understanding international dynamics then and now. Leegime fails because by default they always give up on Singapore and do not do damage control. Always fearing failure so they fail. The current configuration of government servants are useless yesmen, looking for stable high salaries and do nothing.
The government will not employ anyone who votes opposition, seen as a threat and otherwise. Politics, judiciary, and government are all under the Leegime. After running its years of cycle, unity is reached and now it is totally dysfunctional. Because petty cowards who do not even dare admit their mistakes and try to give both sides of the picture and sit on the fence as decision makers, we will go through this crisis very very very very badly.
Rents will make MNCs leave like nobody's business with nothing to fill the vacuum. All the retraining encouraged is a strategy to deplete the CPF and your funds with no chance of improving your employment chances. Most retrenched this time may see their salaries permanently halved from now on.
More investments in China will fail as China has its own problems and will play to win like the USA by adopt strategies like North Korea and the former league of eight nations. Rather than to look after Singaporean, Leegime in always looking away from the real problem and looking for easy non-painful myopic solution will squander away our reserves and wealth. If you want to look at incompetence, look at South Korea which will be taking a serious beating very very soon.

look around & see. there's a reason why lawyers should remain as lawyers & not try to do business. they're typical single-track minded people with not so wise decisions to balance risks. they normally go all out towards an objective, ignoring all costs in between to achieve.

there's also a reason why accountants & math magicians should never do business, bcos all they're concerned is to cut costs in all corners, stinge on dividend releases, chalk up assets in all aspects, and have preference to hold it till kingdom comes. and at the end, self proclaim that they're doing a good job in managing the finances.

scholars should also just remain bookworms as they've been all their lives. academic excellence just proves that they're good at doing what they do best, study, memorize, and when exams come, excrete all their brains have stored for the semester, and ace the papers. when put to the test in a genuine situation, they say the books normally had 1 scenario, they never came across complex combo situations.
