SINGAPORE: A retired civil servant, who was accused last December of violating the Official Secrets Act, was sentenced to three weeks' jail on Tuesday.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) said it charged a retired senior civil servant in court with one count of receiving a confidential document and 24 counts of having in his possession sensitive and classified documents under the Official Secrets Act.
CPIB said after retirement, the accused was not authorised to receive any confidential document or retain any confidential or classified documents which he had obtained during his employment.
The accused was convicted on 17 August and sentenced to jail on Tuesday.
CPIB emphasised that the unauthorised receipt or possession of confidential and classified documents is a serious offence under the Official Secrets Act.
Those found guilty can be fined up to S$2,000 and jailed up to two years.
