In an article published on the Straits Times today - ‘Thumbs-up for financial institutions‘, the three so-called “independent” industry and community leaders appoinetd by MAS to oversee the complaint handling process of the financial institutions praised them in unison for the way they dealt with the investors.

58 per cent of the 2,974 investors who complained will get a full or partial refund from the institution that sold them the products and Fidrec had received 210 complaints - including eight relating to DBS High Notes 5, 129 to Minibonds, 28 to Jubilee Notes and five on Morgan Stanley Pinnacle Series 9 and 10 as of last week.

However, it was only 3 weeks only at the last minibond rally at Hong Lim Park that Mr Tan Kin Lian said that over 90% of the investors’ claims were rejected and very few investors had complained to FIDReC as they have little faith in its arbitrary process. (hear Mr Tan’s full speech here).

So which side is telling the truth ? Is Straits Times reporting the reality on the ground ? Or is Mr Tan misquoting the facts ?

It only come to our attention that Mr Chiam See Tong will be retiring by the next general election and his anointed successor to take over him as MP for Potong Pasir and party Secretary-General is Mr Desmond Lim after we visited the Sinagpore People's Party's homepage in preparation for our weekly political blogs' ranking.

As we felt this is an important matter which netizens ought to know, we have taken the liberty to write to Mr Desmond Lim to publish his facebook account and Mr Chiam's testimony of him so that you may get to know him better.

Below is an exchange of emails consisting of our request and his acquiescence:
