Let us look at the meritocratic achievements of Dr Vivian Balakrishnan:
* President’s Scholar
* Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh
* CEO of SGH
* CO of 2nd Combat Support Hospital
* Chairman of the National Youth Council
* MP for Holland-Bukit Panjang GRC
* Minister of State for National Development
* Senior Minister of State for MTI
* Second Minister for MTI
* Second Minister for MICA
* Minister for MCYS

Now let us look at the way he responded to Dr Lily Neo's question in parliament some time back, asking him to raise the welfare income for PA recipients:

Dr Lily Neo: Sir, I want to check with the Minister again when he said on the strict criteria on the entitlement for PA recipients. May I ask him what is his definition of “subsistence living”? Am I correct to say that, out of $260 per month for PA recipients, $100 goes to rental, power supply and S&C and leaving them with only $5 a day to live on? Am I correct to say that any basic meal in any hawker centre is already $2.50 to $3.00 per meal? Therefore, is it too much to ask for just three meals a day as an entitlement for the PA recipients?

Dr Vivian Balakrishnan: How much do you want? Do you want three meals in a hawker centre, food court or restaurant?”

So, my question to the netizens here is, do you think the Minister for MYCS cares for the people of Singapore despite his great meritocratic achievements in the past? Is there a correlation between meritocratic achievements and feelings for the people?

I want a good blend of both. After all, the Cabinet and Parliament comprise more than just one person.

I would choose caring ones.
Unfortunately, we have neither.

Firstly, the cabinet may be more than 1 person but each person has its own portfolio looking after a specific area. Afterall, there are many aspects in a country to take care of.

Secondly, my question is, if someone who is a high achiever but is heartless, do you still want him?

Unfortunately, we have neither.

We seem to be having leaders who care more about their "market rate"... they feel that they should be paid the same as Wee Cho Yaw, a top banker in Singapore...
