We have a 81:2 parliament Australians have a 76:74 parliament.:(

Similar in the number of 2.

Drastically different.

81 instead of 82 because DEAD MP Ong Chit Chong is no count.

Bukit Batok seat have got not 1 but 2 ghosts fighting this 7th month, Ong Chit Chong & my late friend Mr. JBJ both wants that seat.:o

If Mr. KJ wants to please his father's soul he should contest Jurong GRC for Bukit Batok seat. JBJ's 2nd anniversary coming up end of this month. RIP my friend. Today is 7th month's final day.

Julia Gillard will lead the new minority government not because she is in the stronger position but because at least one independent thinks she is in the weaker.
It was a strikingly candid remark from the Member for New England, Tony Windsor, whose support for Labor will give Gillard the barest possible majority – 76 seats in a 150-seat chamber – to Tony Abbott's 74.
In announcing his decision, Windsor told a press conference this afternoon that he had decided to support Labor because it was more likely to allow the Parliament to run a full three year term.

Don't understand your post? Where is the similarity? Australia is going from a 2 party system into a possible multi party system. Singapore is still struggling to get out of the 1 party mentality. The ASX/AUD actually rise during this period. Everything is good and well thought out.

When has a 2 party structure ever suceeded increating sustainable growth?

So far, no govt can run economies. What govts around the world, incl Singapore, are capable of doing are distorting prices and delaying the inevitable.

uncleyap,

Australian voters are not stupid.
They deliver a hung parliament which both political parties deserve. When an election campaign did not inspire the people (Liberal coalition was too cautious and Labor "killed" a popular PM overnight) The people will not be happy.

Now that Labor has formed a minority govt, things will be tough for them. The govt will find that their policies will be scrutinised more, the politicans cannot anyhow rubber-stamp policies anymore. Because with such a tight margin, Labor is going to have a hard time getting the numbers it needs to pass legistrations. This is good, in a way.

This is also a chance for Australian people to see whether the Greens can be trusted. With the Labor/Greens Coalition, the hidden agenda is similar to Hugo Chávez and green left. This group does not like democracy, does not like China and will kill business for environment.

If the Greens do not wake up their ideas and pursue the realist path, the voters will kick them out in 3 years time. You can trust me on that.

Australia don't have a enormous burden to carry compared with US, but they are facing hard difficulties.

Singapore has a long way to go to break the cycle of walkovers and single-party parliament. It is not just the political parties but the voters themselves that have to realise that Singapore style of government is anything but what is aspired in its Pledge.

Ministers without Portfolios? Ministers with portfolios? Running Singapore is easy job. I think Australian parliamentarians must be very jealous of how easy it is to be Singapore ministers. Aussie ministers have to work hard for their money, because they get thrown eggs or has to resign if they do wrong things. In Singapore, ministers is quite beyond the laws and protected by their peers.

Now that the cabinets are being decided, I can imagine the numbers of outstanding ministerial briefs that the Gillard govt ministers have to go through.

I've always said the Greens are a bunch of hypocrites.

The Greens got in because of protest votes. Hope they do not stay long.

These people will bankrupt Australia!

These people are idiots, they keep saying save the environment this, tax this, tax that. In the end they never mention what this would "cost" to everyone including themselves!

If you dig deeper into their policies, you will find the extreme left idealogy that do not belong to the modern world.

True, The Greens is still very much a purist political party, but a government governs for the masses. They will need to re-structure their policies if they wish to remain in mainstream politics.

They will end up like the democrats. Don't worry about it.
