SINGAPORE: Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew has met Taiwan President Ma Ying-jeou in Taoyuan on Tuesday.
During their discussion, Minister Mentor Lee commended President Ma on his policy of "no unification, no independence, no use of force" which he said, had brought benefits to Taiwan and the region.
Mr Lee also "praised the efforts by both sides of the Taiwan Strait over the past few years to set aside their differences and seek enhanced development in peaceful conditions".
Minister Mentor Lee also commended Taiwan for its robust economic development.
On his part, President Ma expressed appreciation for Singapore's role in facilitating the Koo-Wang talks on cross-Straits relations and Taiwan's regional economic integration.
Minister Mentor Lee and his daughter Dr Lee Wei Ling were visiting Taiwan for a private vacation.
They left for Hong Kong on Thursday.
