The editors of the popular socio-political website Wayangparty.com bought a hamper of birds nest for Mr Seng Han Thong to express their concern for him and regrets for some unkind remarks posted on their website by their readers. The hamper was passed to a staff of Yio Chu Kang Community Club today, 09 Feb. The letter of apology below was emailed to Mr Seng at [email protected]
To Mr Seng Han Thong and family,
We regret the unfortunate incident in which Mr Seng was set upon fire by a resident.
Following the attack, we published an article speculating that a possible motive of the assailant maybe that he was unhappy with MP Seng for not helping him with his housing problems and his flat had been reclaimed by HDB. This was taken word for word from Sin Ming Daily published on 11 January 2009.
In the next few days, some unkind remarks were posted by readers on our blog mocking at MP Seng’s plight. We also put up a video clip by “Wendy Neo” proclaiming the assailant Ong Kah Chua as a “hero”.
We would like to clarify that we do not share the views of our readers and the videomaker above. It has always been our editorial policy to publish news and stories reflecting the prevailing sentiment amongst netizens and to allow freedom of speech and expression as far as possible.
