THE rumor that China is going to have a war with Japan over the disputed Diaoyu Islands has triggered a run on salt in Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province.
Tweeters said salt has been sold out in Mayu Town in Wenzhou as local people believed that the war is drawing close.
The Wenzhou Salt Administration admitted that some people in Rui'an and Wencheng counties stocked up on salt and caused panic buying, The People's Daily reported on its website today.
Local salt administration said the city's salt storage can last two months and salt price will stay unchanged.
