FLASH NEWS: Major Decisions by Indian Government After Pahalgam Terror Attack

Following the Pahalgam terror attack, a high-level Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting was held at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence. In response, the Indian government has taken five major decisions:

Top 5 Decisions Taken by India:

1. Suspension of Indus Waters Treaty:
The 1960 Indus Waters Treaty has been suspended with immediate effect. It will remain on hold until Pakistan gives credible and irreversible proof of ending support for cross-border terrorism.

2. Closure of Integrated Check Post at Attari:
The Attari Integrated Check Post will be shut with immediate effect. Individuals who have crossed the border with valid approvals must return through this route by May 1, 2025.

3. Revocation of SAARC Visa Exemption for Pakistanis:
Pakistani citizens will no longer be allowed to enter India under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES). Any SVES visas issued earlier to Pakistani nationals are now considered cancelled. Those currently in India under this visa must leave the country within 48 hours.

4. Expulsion of Military Advisors:
Pakistan’s defense, naval, and air advisors in the High Commission in New Delhi have been declared persona non grata and must leave India within one week. India will also recall its military advisors from its mission in Pakistan. These posts will now remain vacant. Additionally, five support staff from both missions will be repatriated.

5. Diplomatic Staff Reduction:
The number of diplomatic staff in both High Commissions will be reduced from the current 55 to 30, with further downsizing to take place by May 1, 2025.
