OTTAWA - A Texas man wanted for murder in the U.S. was arrested at the Ottawa International Airport Saturday afternoon as he waited to board a flight to Singapore.
Police believe Lox Gorme, also known as Misael Yacas, 39, from Cypress Meadow, Tex., entered Canada by bus at the border between Windsor and Detroit.
He was screened by Canada Border Services agents upon entry into the country on Friday, but at the time, there was no outstanding warrant for his arrest.
When he again tried to clear customs at the airport while waiting for an outbound flight, the U.S. warrant was activated and Ottawa police and CBSA officers “immediately proceeded to track him down and make the arrest.”
According to the Houston Chronicle, Gorme is accused of fatally shooting his former brother-in-law during an argument in a home in Harris County, Texas.
Investigators in the county said Gorme was charged with murder in the death of Paul Johnson, 38.
The Chronicle reports that according to Texas police, Gorme had been arguing with his sister Wednesday afternoon when he went into the kitchen and fired at Johnson, then threatened to shoot the woman and her children.
After the shooting, Gorme fled the home, resurfacing three days later in Ottawa.
Gorme has been turned over to CBSA agents and is being held on the active warrant.
